Winners Of 2019 Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition

Winners have emerged at the 18th Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition designed to encourage academic excellence among students in Delta State in the junior and secondary categories.

The Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition, organised by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporative (NNPC) and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) joint venture in partnership with the Delta State Ministry of Education, was held in Asaba.

In the senior category B, a 15-year-old SS3 student, from Ughelli Mixed Secondary School, Miss Oseghale Eseosa Favour, emerged in first position, while Ohu Favour, SS3 student of Orient Academy Group of School, Agbor, and Odibo Ehimen John SS3 student of Holy Martyrs of Uganda Minor Seminary Effurun Uvwie, clinched second and third positions respectively.

In the junior category A, 13-year-old JSS3 student of Saint Georges College, Obinomba, in Ukwuani Council Area, Miss Hadome Michelle, came tops while Okpure Excel Oboghenerona, JSS2 student of Dayspring Christian International School, Opete, Udu and Olomukoro Nicolete, a JSS3 student of Royal Miral All Saints College Asaba, came second and third.

In his remarks, the General Manager Policy, Government and Public Affairs, PGPA, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Esimaje Brikinn, said the 2019 edition of the Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition, is the 18th in the series.

Mr. Brikinn, expressed delight over the interest shown by students toward the study of English Language, adding that 1, 248 students across the 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State, participated in the 2019 edition, which produced five female winners and a male.

The Chevron PGPA General Manager, who was represented by the PGPA Superintendent, Tony Emegere, disclosed that the theme for the 2019 Chris Ikomi Memorial Essay Competition was: “Advancing Nigeria through Technology”, noting that it is to encourage young scholars to exercise their fertile minds to new technology in the quest to develop Nigeria.

He emphasized that the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture was committed to improving the quality of education in Nigeria, through investment in educational infrastructure, sponsorship, manpower development as well as provision of scholarships.
