Victor Onwuka and Onyinye Okafor have emerged overall winners of the 2021 Secondary School Chemistry Competition organised by the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN).
Acting Head Teacher, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) High School, Mrs. Atinuke Israel, disclosed that Victor Onwuka scored 92 percent in the male category, while Onyinye Okafor recorded 87 percent in the female category.
She attributed their performance to what she described as “intensive preparations by the school and divine backing”.
Two representatives each were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (NAU), Professor Charles Esimone has commended Victor Onwuka and Onyinye Okafor of the University High School for emerging overall best in national Chemistry competition in Lagos recently.
Professor Esimone, who received the students and delegation of the High School in his office, commended the students for their success in the competition.
The delegation include: the Anambra state Chairman, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Professor Theresa Onuegbu, Vice Chairman of CSN, Professor Sylvia Okonkwo, Chairman, UNIZIK High School Parents Teachers Council, Dr. Ogechukwu Aribodor, and Head of Department (HOD) of Pure and Industrial Chemistry Department, Dr. Uche Ekpunobi, among others.
The Vice Chancellor said their success had etched the university’s name in the global map, adding:
“I am deeply elated at the success of our students. I thank all the staff and the various players, who contributed to the success we are celebrating today; this is teamwork.
The students have commenced a journey that will take them beyond man’s description. You are the first fruit of our heart desire. All our works is to make the High School a force to reckon with globally.
We encourage you not to relent with this primary success and to see this not as the endpoint, but as a foundation upon which you will build your success.”
There are lots of opportunities available there. You need to strive in all ramifications to maintain that success but remember that the fear of God is the beginning of all wisdom.”
He assured that management of the university would not relent in its strategic investment in the UNIZIK High School, especially in infrastructure development and staff welfare.
Professor Esimone also commended their teacher, Chukwunonso Onyenanu, for his commitment in grooming the students to become a success story being celebrated.
