Team Nigeria has won a total of six medals (three gold, two silver and one bronze) at the 2022 ITTF Africa Youth Championship held in Tunisia.
Nigeria’s Taiwo Mati defeated Gamal Marwan of Egypt 4-1 to win the Under-19 boys’ title (single) at the 2022 ITTF Africa Youth Championship.
Likewise, Mati, Boboye, and Adegoke defeated Egypt’s Marwan Gamal, Mohamed Azzam, and Moamen Salah El Din 3-1 in the final to guarantee gold in the Under-19 boy’s group.
The Nigerian Team lost to Egypt in the Under-15 boy’s final. The group consisting of Kuti Matthew, Mustapha, and Musa Mustapha lost 3-1 to the Egyptian side.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Under-19 team had earlier secured their slot at the World Youth Championships after beating Egypt 3-1 in the final of the team event.
The continental youth championships made a return in Tunis since the last edition held in Accra, Ghana in 2019 following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the Africa Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), the tournament serves as qualifiers for the World Youth Championships taking place later in the year in the same venue in Tunisia.
