Team Nigeria has emerged the overall best team of the 2019 Nigeria Taekwondo Open held at the Abuja National Stadium, Abuja.
Nigeria emerged in first position with 9 gold and 1 bronze medal – a total of 10 medals, Team Benin Republic came second with 1 gold and 1 silver, while Team Saudi Arabia and Taraba state won 1 gold and 1 silver to finish third and fourth place respectively at the end of the three-day championship.
Lagos state won 1 gold and 3 bronze medals to finish in fifth position, Team Cote d’Ivoire and NSCDC had 1 gold medal each at the Open.
Team Niger Republic won 3 silver and 7 bronze medals to finish in eight position, Team Nigeria Army won 2 silver medals to finish ninth place while Team Ghana won 1 silver and 2 bronze medals to finish in tenth position.
Ifeoluwa Ajayi of Team Nigeria was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the men’s category while Bouma Coulibaly of Cote d’Ivoire was adjudged the Most Valuable Player in the women’s category.
Elizabeth Binga, the President of Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF), attributed the success of the event to full cooperation received from members of the federation’s board and other well-meaning stakeholders.
Binga used the opportunity to urge wealthy individuals and the corporate world to identify with the federation in its activities.
