The students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) have emerged winners of the 2022 ENACTUS Nigeria National competition held on August 30, 2022 at the Eko hotels, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The competition, which began in July this year had 16 participants, 8 of the teams qualified to participate at the semifinals, and 4 of those teams progressed to the finals.
The former reigning champions, the Tai Solarin University of Education team finished second.
The finalists of the 2022 ENACTUS Nigeria National competition were the Federal University of Technology (FUT Minna), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU Zaria), Tai Solarin University of Education (Tasued), and University of Calabar (Unical).
The teams were tasked to come up with innovative products that have been researched and can solve immediate problems in society.
Each team at the finals was allowed to pitch their business ideas before the panel of judges and after a rigorous selection process on the part of the judges, ABU emerged winner.
Team ABU also won a sum of ₦150,000 for producing the most engaging videos on YouTube at the event.
The ABU team will represent Nigeria at the ENACTUS world cup coming up in Puerto Rico.
A statement issued by Auwal Umar of the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on September 7, 2022, explained that the student competition, at which ABU team will showcase two social enterprises PuP Industries and Tompa, will hold from 30th October to 2nd November, 2022.
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Kabiru Bala, congratulated the team on the landmark success recorded, and commended the Faculty Advisor and all those who worked towards the team’s emergence as the overall winner of the national competition.
Professor Bala expressed confidence that the team would emerge victorious at the global competition and that the University would do all it could to support the team achieve the desired success.
ENACTUS is an international non-profit organization; an acronym that stands for EN-trepreneurial, ACT–ion, US–nited. ENACTUS yearly organises an international social entrepreneurship project presentation competition for university students.
