Stanley Eribo Retains 2017 ABU Welterweight Title

Stanley Eribo (also known as “Edo Boy”) has retained his African Boxing Union, ABU welterweight title by defeating Tanzania’s Ramadhani Shauri via a unanimous decision at GOtv Boxing Night 12.

Stanley Eribo also won 2.5 million attached to the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Prize for the best boxer of the night.

The seven-fight event also saw Nigeria’s Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph make history as he became the first ever winner of the Commonwealth Africa Lightweight title.

He also won 500,000 as the second-runner up for the best boxer prize. Joseph defeated Israel “Forget” Kwamwamba of Malawi via a unanimous decision.

Another big winner on the night was Nigeria’s Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi, who saw off Ghana’s Ben “Congo Soldier” Ankrah to retain his West African Boxing Union light welterweight title.

Fijabi also won 1 million as the runner-up for the best boxer award.

In the fourth international fight of the night, Waidi “Skoro” Usman defeated Tanzania’s Juma Fundi in an international featherweight challenge duel.

All three Nigerian duels at the event saw Rilwan “Baby Face” Babatunde knock out Tombraye “Tornado” Christmas in the light welterweight division, Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu did same to Samuel “Omo Daddy” Opaogun in a lightweight clash while Kabiru “KB Godson” Towolawi reprising the act against Akeem “AK” Adebayo.

The event took place at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Lagos.
