Sporting Lagos have emerged as the winners of the inaugural Naija Super 8 competition after defeating Remo Stars on penalties in the final on July 16, 2023.
The winners who recently achieved promotion to the Nigeria Premier League, went from being a wildcard to the Super 8 tournament to emerging champions.
The Lagos side won 4-2 in the shootout after both sides had played 1-1 at full time.
After a goalless first half Sporting Lagos took the lead in the 52nd minute through Aliu.
Remo’s Adams Olamilekan scored with four minutes left but it was ruled out for offside before Olamilekan eventually got the equaliser in the 93rd minute.
The game went on to a shootout, and the Lagos-based club carried the day.
For emerging winners, Sporting Lagos were awarded the star prize of 25 million Naira while runners-up Remo got 9 million Naira.
