Rosemary Chukwuma has emerged winner of the 60 meters race event held at the 2023 TTU Corky Classic at the Sports Performance Center in Texas, USA.
The Texas Tech sprinters Rosemary Chukwuma and Courtney Lindsey were named the Big 12 indoor track and field athletes of the week for their performances in the season-opening Corky Classic at the Sports Performance Center.
Chukwuma broke her school record in the 60 meters when she ran a time of 7.11 seconds in the first round of competition, then won the final in 7.13 seconds. The junior has the seven fastest times in the 60 meters in the program’s history.
The time propelled her to joint No. 8 on the all-time Nigerian list and then the fastest time by any female athlete in the world this year.
In the words of Rosemary Chukwuma on her performance at the 2023 TTU Corky Classic:
“It’s so exciting and overwhelming, because I didn’t expect the time.
I trained for it. It’s also surprising, though. It’s shocking because I stopped (ended) at 7.1 last season, and I came last week and I started where I stopped (finished last season), so it’s kind of exciting for me.”
