Professor Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun Elected First Female Provost Of The College Of Medicine Of University Of Ibadan

Professor Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun has been elected as the Provost of the College of Medicine of University of Ibadan (the first female and the 12th Provost of the college).

Professor Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun, the first female Professor of Psychiatry in Nigeria, resumed duty on the 3rd of August 2020.

At a ceremony held at the Board Room of the college to usher in the new Provost, she pledged to work harmoniously with the Chief Medical Director of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo in the areas of Training and Research to improve healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

In her remark titled “Now therefore arise, let us go over together,” Professor Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun called on the college community and all alumni of the College of Medicine to throw their weight behind her saying:

“My policy thrust is well spelt out and all encompassing, that is why I acronymed it TOGETHER, we are all in this together and success is based on our collective efforts.”

Professor Otegbayo in his response declared to work hand-in-hand with the new provost, stating:

“I have resolved before I assumed office that I will never engage in any controversy with the College Provost because working together will bring forth positive results and that is what I stand for.”

Professor Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun is married to Professor Akinyinka Omigbodun, a Gynaecologist and one time Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan.

Professor Olayinka Omigbodun was the President of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP) from 2010 to 2014, the first African to hold the position in the history of the organization, founded 1937.
