OmiGuard International and Nigeria Customs Service have emerged champions of the 2022 President Beach Volleyball Cup in the men and women category respectively on February 22, 2022.
OmiGuard International (Andrew Sunday/Godwin Shekarau) defeated former champions, Kada Kings (Uche Augustine /Peter Jasper) 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) in the men’s final while Nigeria Immigration Service (Goodluck Anyasodike/Emmanuel Emenike) beat Nigeria Customs Service (Emmanuel Udah/Hilary Simon) to settle for third position.
In the women’s senior category, Nigeria Customs Service (Francisca Ikhiede/Tochukwu Nnoruga) who are the defending champions retained their title while the Adamawa queens (Jummai Bitrus/Ijeoma Ukpachi) came runners up with the NSCDC (Albertina Francis/Happy Wushilang) taking the third position after seeing off stubborn Kada Emeralds 2-1 (23-21, 18-21, 15-5).
In the Under-18 girls, Rubicon team came first while the pro-spikers picked second position with Kada queens coming third behind.
For the Under-19 boys, Kada Kings emerged winners while Borno state team came runners up with the Nile University team coming third.
The 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the male and female senior categories went home with trophies, balls and a cash prize of ₦150,000, ₦120,000 and ₦100,000 respectively.
In the Under-18 girls and Under-19 boys, the winners went home with a trophy, balls and cash prize of ₦120,000, ₦100,000 and ₦80,000 respectively.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2022 President Beach Volleyball Cup, President Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) Engineer Musa Nimrod commended all the players for a team spirit exhibited while the championship lasted.
He disclosed that the Beach Volleyball tour will start in July and is scheduled to hold in Adamawa. Ibadan and Akwa Ibom, adding that the tour will be open and no categorization.
Nimrod further disclosed that Nigeria is also bidding for the hosting right of the African Beach Under-18 and Under-19 championship.
