Nigerian Winners Of 2023 NJCAA Nationals

Nigerian winners have emerged at the 2023 NJCAA Nationals held in May 2023.

At the 2023 NJCAA Nationals, Cloud County’s Miracle Thompson shattered her School Record when she won the women’s 100 meters hurdles with a personal best (PB) of 13.31 seconds over a headwind of 0.7m/s beating Adeyah Brewster (13.46 seconds) and Danae Nembhard (13.51 seconds). Compatriot Ese Awusa finished 5th with a time of 13.95 seconds.

Thompson first broke her PB in the heats when she clocked the fastest qualifying time of 13.33 seconds.

Teammate Vincent Uguwoke followed suit as he also broke his school record in the men’s Discus throw to finish just outside the medals zone in fourth position with a distance of 59.37 meters, which is also a PB for him.

Success Umukoro upgraded her Silver from last year to Gold as she won the women’s 100 meters with a time of 11.37 seconds ahead of Diandrenique Gaines (11.53 seconds) and Tijuanique Morton (11.56 seconds).

Umukoro’s quest for double Gold was cut short as Gaines took the 200 meters title despite clocking at the same time as the former (23.28 seconds). Umukoro took consolation in her time because it is a new PB for her.
