Nigerian Archers Win 16 Medals At 11th International Archery Grand Prix And The 14th West And Central African Archery Zone Championship (TIZOCATA)

The Nigerian archery team have won 16 medals, comprising 10 gold, two silver, and four bronze, at the 11th International Archery Grand Prix and the 14th West and Central African Archery Zone Championship (TIZOCATA) in Côte d’Ivoire.

The tournament was hosted by the Ivorian Archery Federation (FIVTA) and took place from August 18 to 25, 2024, at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Marcory, Abidjan.

The Nigerian team, consisting of nine male and one female archer from Zen Archery Club Lagos, Abuja Shooters Club, and Arch Archery, competed against over 70 archers from six West and Central African countries across several categories, including compound archery, recurve archery, and barebow archery.

Emmanuel Oyeleke, one of the leading athletes for the Nigerian team, said the country’s representatives showed incredible skill and determination throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Archery Nigeria believes that this remarkable accomplishment at the 11th International Archery Grand Prix and the 14th West and Central African Archery Zone Championshipwill help to raise awareness of archery in the country further and encourage the next generation of archers.

It is also hoped that the team’s story will inspire aspiring athletes and secure greater backing for the continued development of archery in Nigeria and across West Africa.

Archers who represented Nigeria include Emmanuel Durodola Caster; Aderonke Aderinoye; Tosin Junaid; Emmanuel Oyeleke and Adebayo-Lateef Mubarak.

Others are Aliyu Abubakar Garga; Aliyu Abubakar; Sholademi Damilola; Ado Mohammed and Abdulhamid Umaru.
