Nigeria Wins Africa’s First-Ever Floorball Tournament [2018]

The Nigeria Floorball team has emerged African Champions of the First African Floorball Cup defeating Burkina Faso in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire to lift African trophy.

Led by the president of the Nigeria Floorball Association, Maduka Edith Chinenye, the Coach Freeman Ekundayo tutored the Nigerian team with only Seven players and three officials during the Championship.

The Nigerian team beat host country Cote D’ Ivoire 7-3 in their first Match before defeating Togo 7-3 also in their second game. Their third game proved to be tougher as they bowed 1-5 to Burkina Faso who had a superior fire works to record their first first and only loss which placed them Second behind Burkina Faso that won all their matches in the round robin stage of the Competition.

The round robin second position was good enough to give Nigeria her ticket to the finals where they faced their preliminary conquerors, Burkina Faso for a rematch and the Championship trophy.

Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with 96–115.5 cm-long (37.8–45.5 in) sticks and a 22–23 cm-circumference (8.7–9.1 in) plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. Floorball was included in the World Games for the first time in 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland. Sweden were the first World Games gold medal winners.
