Miracle Thompson has set new records in the 60-meter hurdles and 60 meters dash events at the 2023 Washburn University Rust Buster Classic inside the Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka, Kansas on January 21, 2023.
The Cloud County Community College women’s track and field team would see sophomore Miracle Thompson break her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles and run a national qualifying mark in the 60 meters as part of three new national qualifying marks and five event wins for the T-Birds at the 2023 Washburn University Rust Buster Classic.
No team scores were kept for the meet, which featured a mix of teams across NCAA Division I, II, III, the NAIA, and NJCAA.
Thompson’s school-record time would come in the finals of the 38-runner event as the Nigerian would run the top qualifying time of 8.65 seconds before a time of 8.39 seconds in the finals to win the event and break her old school record by three one-hundredths of a second. Thompson however, going on to qualify for the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68 seconds before going on to finish third in the finals with a national qualifying time of 7.50 seconds to post top-three finishes in each of her two events on January 21.
