House Of Wisdom Sermons 2: Achieving God’s Standard Of Holiness By Apostle Olumide Jayeola (AACC)
In our flight on the wings of the eagle, one of the realms we should attain, is the realm of holiness. Holiness is not merely a concept but a divine calling for every believer. As followers of Christ, we are called to live set apart from the world, reflecting God’s character in our daily lives. The significance of walking in holiness, and the impact it has on our relationship with God and others cannot be overemphasized.
Holiness is defined as dedication and consecration to God, reflecting His purity and righteousness in our lives. This includes both moral integrity and spiritual devotion – Psalms 4:2-3. In 1 Peter 1:15-16 believers are instructed to be holy because God is holy, highlighting the importance of living in accordance with God’s standards rather than the world’s.
Hebrews 12:14 reminds us that it is impossible to see the Lord, without holiness. Walking in holiness deepens our relationship with God, thus allowing us to experience His presence more intimately. The Israelites were called to be a holy nation (Exodus 19:6). Their obedience to God’s commands distinguished them from other nations and showcased His glory. But when they strayed, their witness was tarnished, leading to judgment and exile.
How do I live according to God’s Standards in a corrupt world?
- Commitment to Holiness: Strive to live a life set apart by aligning your actions with your faith and principles. Reflect on God’s character and incorporate those values into everyday decisions – Romans 12:1.
- Practice Obedience: Obedience to God’s commands is crucial in walking in holiness. John 14:15 states, “If you love me, keep my commands.” Our love for God is demonstrated through our willingness to obey His Word. Daniel and his friends chose to maintain their dietary laws, rejecting the king’s provisions. Their commitment to holiness not only preserved their identities but also led to God’s favor and blessings – Daniel 1:8-20.
- Stay Faithful in Challenges: Like Joseph, maintain your integrity and commitment to God and your beliefs, even when faced with severely difficult situations – Genesis 39:7-12.
- Be Transformed through Renewal: Continually renew your mind through scripture and meditation to align your thoughts with God’s will, facilitating personal transformation and growth – Joshua 1:8; Romans 12:1-2.
- Be a Witness to Others: Your life can serve as a testimony to others. Reflect Christ’s love and righteousness in interactions and decisions, drawing others towards a path of faith. Do not be ashamed of Christ – Romans 1:16.
- Seek Forgiveness and Grace: Embrace the transformative power of forgiveness. Let go of past mistakes and endeavor to live a life free from sin, while showing grace to yourself and others – 1 John 1:9.
- Engage with the Christian Community: Surround yourself with a community that shares similar values; engage in discussions and activities that support spiritual growth. You can achieve this by connecting with a Bible teaching ministry around you – Hebrews 10:24-25
The Fruit of Holiness
- Peace and Joy: Walking in holiness brings inner peace and joy that transcends circumstances. As we align ourselves with God’s will, we experience the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
- Transformation of Life: Holiness results in transformation. As we grow in our walk with God, we become more like Christ, reflecting His character and love to the world. Our lives become vessels of His glory. Jesus’ encounter with the woman caught in adultery illustrates the transformative power of holiness (John 8:1-11). He did not condemn her but offered her forgiveness and a call to “go and sin no more.” This moment changed her life and showcased the grace of holiness.
- Deeper Connection to God: The Bible speaks of Enoch whom God “took away”, because he walked with God (in holiness) – Genesis 5:24. Holiness takes you to the realm of God and grants you unlimited and unrestricted access to Him – Hebrews 12:14
Conclusion (Isaiah 35:8 NKJV)
A highway shall be there, and a road, and it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, shall not go astray.
Walking in holiness is both a privilege and a responsibility for every believer. It impacts our relationship with God, our witness to the world, and our transformation into Christ’s image. Let us strive to live set apart, embracing the call to holiness and reflecting God’s character in all we do.
