House Of Wisdom Sermons 1: Overcoming Obstacles To Receiving Miracles By Apostle Olumide Jayeola (AACC)
A miracle is defined as a supernatural act of God, representing His sovereignty and power, which transcends the natural laws governing the human realm. What we see as a miracle is considered a normal occurrence in God’s realm.
Every miracle comes with its own set of obstacles or tests that must be overcome. These obstacles are sometimes seen as tests from God to prepare or position individuals for the miraculous. Miracles’ obstacles are opportunities to demonstrate faith and perseverance as seen in the Biblical examples below:
- Hannah and Eli: Confrontation with a man of God can be an obstacle to miracle. Hannah overcame the obstacle of being accused of drunkenness by Eli through humility and meekness. This demonstrates the need to remain calm and composed to receive a miracle – 1 Samuel 1:12-18
- Mary and Jesus: Despite being the mother of Jesus, Mary also encountered obstacle to miracle. Jesus’ response to her was enough to offend her, and this would have hindered the miracle from manifesting. However, she prevailed over the obstacle thereby bringing sweetness to the marriage – John 2:1-10
- Joseph and Potiphar’s Wife: Joseph had to resist the advances of Potiphar’s wife as an obstacle to his destiny as Prime Minister of Egypt – Genesis 39.
- The Spies and the Giants: The story of the spies sent by Moses highlights that ten of them focused on the obstacles (the giants), resulting in their failure to enter the Promised Land. In contrast, Joshua and Caleb, who focused on God’s promise, succeeded – Numbers 13.
- Peter and the Wind: At Jesus’ command, Peter walked on water. He would have made history as the only man who ever walked on water without sinking like Jesus did, had he not become afraid of the wind. He got scared and almost drowned – Matthew 14:22-32
- Abraham and Isaac: Abraham was tested with his son Isaac. His willingness to trust in God rather than holding on to his current blessings allowed him to receive a greater miracle – Genesis 22:1-18
What should I do when I encounter obstacles to miracles?
- Face obstacles with confidence: Recognize that challenges are often precursors to breakthroughs. Instead of shying away, approach them with courage and determination.
- Stay Grounded in Faith: Maintain a strong belief in your goals and visions. Faith provides the strength needed to overcome difficulties.
- Learn from Examples: Look to examples of people who have successfully navigated obstacles in their paths, drawing inspiration from their perseverance and strategies. Hannah, Mary and Abraham are great examples from Scripture.
- Remain Persistent: Don’t give up when faced with setbacks. Keep pushing forward, knowing that persistence is key to achieving your desires. The woman with issue of blood in the Bible persisted, overcame the crowd press to reach Jesus, and eventually got her miracle.
- Seek Guidance: Don’t hesitate to seek advice or mentorship from those who have experience in overcoming similar challenges.
- Celebrate Milestones: Acknowledge and celebrate small victories along the way. This can motivate you to keep moving forward toward your ultimate goals.
Only those who overcome obstacles can experience miracles (Rev. 3:5, 12, 21).
Thanks be to God who has given us the victory through the Blood of Jesus and the word of our testimony – 1 Cor. 15:57; Rev. 12:11.
