36-year-old Folashade Alice Oluwafemiayo has set new World and Paralympics records in powerlifting at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in Japan.
Folashade Alice Oluwafemiayo claimed Nigeria’s third gold medal in powerlifting in the women’s 86 kg category with new World and Paralympics records.
She also broke her former world record set in Manchester on March 28, 2021, with her second lift of 151 kg. Oluwafemiayo then went on to set a new Paralympic record after lifting 152 kg on August 30, 2021.
Zheng Feifei of China claimed the silver medal with a 139 kg lift while Sugden Loiuse of Great Britain received bronze after lifting 131 kg.
Latifat Tijani was the first Nigerian athlete to win gold for the country at the event in Tokyo.
In the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Team Nigeria won a total of 10 medals – four gold, one silver and five bronze medals; with an overall position of 34.
