Fatima Akinola has graduated with a 4.0/4.0 GPA from her Masters degree in Mathematics at the Marshall University, USA [2020/2021].
The achievement is the first of its kind by any female student in the 42 years history of the University.
She emerged as the best graduating student with a first-class honour in Mathematics from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, (UDUS) Nigeria in 2017.
Fatima Akinola as disclosed by her sister, secured a 100% scholarship at the Nigerian Turkish International College for her senior high school (2009 to 2012); came first in Kano State (12th at National level) in Chemistry International Olympiad for senior high schools; as well as represented Sokoto State at several competitions including the National Cowbell Mathematics competition for junior high schools at Lagos in 2009 and the National junior Mathematics Olympiad in Ibadan in 2009.
In the words of Fatima A. Akinola:
“One of my proudest achievements so far in academia is proving Nigeria to the world!!!
I graduated with a perfect 4.0/4.0 from my masters degree in Mathematics at the Marshall University. This feat gladdens my heart as it tells you what Nigerians are capable of!
I finished my Undergraduate degree in mathematics with a first class honors 4.73/5.0. This was a stepping stone towards my masters, yes, however given the difference in curriculum between the United States and Nigeria, it took more than a first class to achieve the 4.0!
I am beyond humbled by my experiences so far and it gladdens my heart to share that I will be joining the Department of Mathematics at the University of Florida come August/Fall 2021 to begin yet another sojourn towards my academic goals, as a PhD student, on a fully funded program!”
