Eyinnaya Nwigwe has won the overall best actor award at the 2024 Cameroon International Film Festival (CAMIFF).
The award acknowledged Nwigwe’s impressive performance in Joel Ayuk’s cross-continental action-drama Choke Hold where he starred alongside Jamaican actress, Sherando Ferril.
The actor’s capacity to take-on different but tasking roles, has led to his being a part of another international production such as All About Love (South Africa), and Black November (2012).
Delighted with the feat, Eyinnaya Nwigwe commended the festival team and director, Gilbert Ebot, for their relentless effort in keeping the film culture in Cameroon alive and thriving, and Choke Hold team for winning the Best Screenplay award.
Written, produced and directed by Joel Ayuk, Choke Hold (2023) was inspired by a true-story of intimate partner violence, and featured a diverse cast of crew drawn from the Caribbean, Africa and North American film industry.
