Edo Cocoa FC have emerged winners of the 2019 Peter Obaseki football tournament defeating Igbogor FC 5-4 after penalties shootouts.
The final was held in Igbogor town.
In a post match interview, Coach of Edo Cocoa FC was visibly elated and thanked the organisers for bringing football as means of addressing youths restiveness in the locality.
He particular commended Mr. Peter Obaseki for sponsoring the competition since 2011, adding that the aim of the competition has since be meant especially in the area of bringing development to the grassroots through football.
Also, the tournament highest goal scorer, Musa Adeniyi described the competition as one of the best he has played in, stressing that he played against tough defenders to register six goals in the competition.
Musa Adeniyi singled out Mikel Obi as his football role model.
Addressing sports writers, sponsor of the annual football tournament, Mr. Peter Obaseki represented by Hon. Edosa Enowoghomwenma said that the competition is aimed at harnessing talents in the area, adding that since 1994, Nigeria has not had the assemblage of good grassroots football.
Hon. Edosa Enowoghomwenma said:
“For sports lovers like us, we are still clamouring for 1994 team and the only way we can achieve this is to go back to the basis. Since 1994, we have not had assemblage of professional footballers front the grass-roots.
So, the intent of Peter Obaseki is to use this yearly competition to assemble young potentials that the government and every other football enthusiasts can be proud of.
In four years time, our aims is to have talents harnessed from this competition that will be representing the state like playing for Bendel Insurance, Super Eagles and others.”
