Chinasa Nweze Emerges Best Overall In West Africa In May/June 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

18-year-old Chinasa Nweze has emerged the best overall in West Africa in the May/June 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

She and two other students who placed second and third position respectively in the International Excellence award were rewarded at the 70th Annual meeting of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) held in Abuja on 15 March 2022.

Chinasa Nweze triumphed over 1,500,000 million candidates that sat for the school exam in the five member countries in the sub region.


In the May/June 2021 WASSCE, Chinasa Nweze, a former student of Lagoon School, Lekki, Lagos State obtained eight As. She also emerged the best overall in the Nigeria by beating over 1.5 million candidates.

The second position in West Africa went to a Ghanaian student, Asante Brako, who also recorded eight As in the school exam.

Asante, a former student of Presbyterian Boy’s Senior High School, Legon-Accra, Ghana, is currently studying Computer Science at Ashesi University College, Accra, Ghana.

Another 18-year-old Nigerian, Edeani Godswill, obtained eight As in May/June 2021 WASSCE.

The award ceremony was attended by the Vice President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osinbajo wherein he acknowledged the outstanding performance of the three students and urged other SS3 students to emulate the best students.

Professsor Osinbajo said by the performance of Nweze and Edeani in the May/June 2021 WASSCE, they have done the country proud as he presented the international and national awards to the best WASSCE students.
