The Nigeria men’s table tennis team have emerged champions at the International Table Tennis Federation, ITTF, African championship in Mauritius.

Aruna Quadri led Nigeria to a 3-1 victory over Egypt in the final of the men’s team event.

Nigeria Wins ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifier Africa Division Two Title [2018]

Nigeria’s junior national cricket team emerge winner of the International Cricket Council, ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifier Africa Division Two title at the Senwes Park, in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Nigeria defeated Sierra Leone at the finals by 137 runs and triumphed over Tanzania in one of the semifinals to qualify for the 2020 ICC World Cup. It also earned the team promotion to the Division One cadre.

Aruna Quadri Wins ITTF Nigeria Open 2018

Aruna Quadri has become the first Nigerian to win the ITTF Nigeria Open men’s singles title after defeating Frenchman, Hachard Antoine in the final match of ITTF Nigeria Open 2018 held at Molade Okoya Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

For his effort, Aruna Quadri won the ITTF Nigeria Open top prize money of $5,000. The Nigerian also won another $200 courtesy of the fair play award, which was also awarded to him.

Yemisi Olatunji Wins Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship [2018]

Nigeria’s number one female squash player, Yemisi Olatunji has won the SafeGuard Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship after defeating her sister, Busayo Olatunji to win the women’s final, which ended in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Squash Open Championship, which featured players from South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Nigeria and host country, Zimbabwe’s male and female teams, was organised to develop and expose African stars.

Alamuwa Grammar School Wins 2018 GTB/Principal Cup Competition

Alamuwa Grammar School, Ado-Odo, has emerged winners of the GTB/Principal Cup competition amongst secondary schools in Ogun State.

In an ethralling match played at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Alamuwa defeated defending champions, Pakoto High School, Ayede-Ifo, in a dramatic 6-5 penalty shootout win after both sides tied 1-1 in regulation time.

This is the third time Alamuwa Grammar School would win the title since GT Bank took over the sponsorship of the tournament six years ago following their previous wins in 2013 and 2014.

In the preliminary competition, Alamuwa  Grammar School defeated the duo of Toyan High School, Ere, Ado Odo and Ado Odo High School on the same day. Thereafter, the school put away the likes of Ejila Community High School, Ejila Awori; Ansar Udeen Comprehensive College, Ota, to emerge as the zonal torchbearer of the Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Thereafter, the school defeated Yewa College, Ilaro, and Community High School, Ilara, to emerge the zonal champions of the Yewa-Awori axis.

In the semi-finals, AlaGrams as the school is popularly referred to, emerged victorious over hard-fighting Ijebu Ode Grammar School with an impressive 3-1 win to reach their third finals in three years against the defending champions tagged Pakoto Warriors.

Yet, AlaGrams claimed victory in the presence of dignitaries that included the state’s Executive Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the Secretary to the Ogun State Government, Barrister Taiwo Adeokun, Chief of Staff to Governor Amosun, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Alhaji Suraju Adekunbi, Honourable Commissioners, Managing Director of GTB, Mr. Segun Agbaje and thousands of spectators.

Apart from the glittering trophy, AlaGrams also went home with one million naira (1 million) in prize money as winners of Ogun State’s GTB Principal Cup for 2018 while Ogunro Toheeb, a class two senior secondary school student, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Winners Of Africa Tour Event [2018]

Winners have emerged in the 2018 Africa Tour Event used as a test run for upcoming Africa Senior Athletics Championships. The Africa Tour Event was hosted at the newly built Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

Divine Oduduru won the 100 meters with a time of 10.44 seconds while the duo of Ogho-Oghene Egwero (10.46) and Enoch Adegoke (10.52) emerged second and third respectively.

Rivers State Wins 2018 Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship

Team Rivers have emerged as the best state at the 2018 Asaph Zadok National Scrabble Championship in Abuja.

The state dethroned Lagos state to win the title with trophy and 100,000 prize. Lagos and Oyo states came second and third best respectively.

Moses Peter, representing Akwa Ibom state emerged the individual champion after winning 17.5 games with 1,247 aggregate. Moses Peter is the first Nigerian to win the national championship twice, also won trophy and 150,000.

Ogedengbe Olawale came second in that category with 17.5 games and 939 aggregate as well as 100,000.

The 2015 world scrabble champion, Wellington Jighere, came third with 17 games with 453 aggregate and went home with 70,000.

Moses Peter dedicated his victory to God, saying that hard work and the fact that he read hard and had been competing with others helped him a lot.
