Dr. Maxwell AzukaMeju, has been selected by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) headquartered in Tulsa, USA, for the 2019 Reginald Fessenden Award, one of the highest prizes in exploration geophysics.

A notification by the SEG 2018/2019 President, Robert Stewart, said the award was in recognition of the development of the current cross-gradient joint-inversion method, an invention now widely used in academia and various industries.

Emmanuel Gabriel Develops OBTranslate As ML/AI Assistance For Translating Over 2,000 African Languages

41-year-old Emmanuel Gabriel, has developed OBTranslate – a global Machine learning (ML) / Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistance platform for over 2,000 African language translation.

According to the German-based Emmanuel Gabriel, being the first globally, OBTranslate is an online Common Admission Tool (CAT) for machine learning, AI platforms and neural network systems for over 2,000 African languages. He explained that the drive to expand the Nigerian, African ICT market, create jobs and help improve lives of people motivated him to come up with the innovation.

Team Nigeria Emerge 3rd In Unilever Future Leaders League [2019]

Team Nigeria has emerged 3rd place winner in the final of the Unilever Future Leaders League held in London on April 13, 2019. This is the first-time Team Nigeria will be reaching the finals of the competition.

Out of 27 countries that participated in the finals which took place at the Hilton Towers, London, amongst the ten finalists were Team Nigeria, Team Bangladesh, Team Pakistan, Team Czech, Team Russia, Team Indonesia, Team Serbia, Team Brazil and Team Thailand.

4 Nigerian Students Win Bronze At 2019 International Festival Of Engineering, Science & Technology (I-FEST) Competition

Four Nigerian students from St. John’s Science and Technical College, Alor in Anambra have clinched bronze medal at the 2019 International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology (I-FEST) competition in Tunisia.

The students between the ages of 15-24 are Meshac Ugwuisi, Anthony Chika-Umeora, Daniel Nwachukwu and Dominic Machi.

35 countries participated in the I-FEST competition, which held from March 21 to 29, 2019 while students from Belarus clinched the gold medal.

Adebayo Alonge’s RxAll Wins 2019 BNP Paribas Group DeepTech Prize

Adebayo Alonge’s startup – RxAll has won the 2019 BNP Paribas Group Deep Tech Prize for co-developing a handheld nanoscanners that uses artificial intelligence to identify fake drugs and assess general drug quality on mobile phones.

The 2019 BNP Paribas Group DeepTech Prize comes with a €100,000 prize.

An emotional Adebayo Alonge while receiving the award, said:

“Thank you so much. It’s been a long journey personally for me, from the 15 years when I was surviving from a fake drug to standing today in front of you here and letting you to be in my dream and the dream of my co-founders to make sure that most of people are safe from fake medicines.”

Nigerian Students Team Emerge Joint Winners Of Sub-Saharan Regional Finals Of 2019 Huawei ICT Competition

A team of Nigerian students have emerged joint winners of the Sub-Saharan regional finals of the 2019 Huawei ICT Competition alongside Team Tanzania and earned a spot at the global finals in May 2019 in China.

The Nigerian students: Abdulqadir Babagana Musa, Muhammad Mustafa Maihaja, Fahad Danladi, Shuaibu Abbas Usman, Kamaludeen Umar, Abdulqudus Adebayo Temidayo all from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) first emerged winners of the Huawei ICT national competition, which involved a participation of 13,600 students from 30 universities across Nigeria before proceeding to represent Nigeria at the just-concluded Sub-Saharan regional finals held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Nigerian team of students ranked number one leading with a dominant score of 790.4, followed by Tanzania with 745.6, then Kenya with 737 and Angola with 700.8.
