Team Gridzer Of UNILAG Wins 2019 TechMoney Africa Summit Hackathon

Team Gridzer of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has won the 2019 TechMoney Africa Summit Hackathon at the TechMoney Africa Summit held at the University of Lagos, Lagos.

Team Gridzer, which includes Seyi Daniels receives the star prize worth 1.5 million Naira.

The two-day event, which took place from June 10 to 11, 2019 was organized by Unicorn group in collaboration with the University of Lagos.

Adekunle Silas has emerged among the world’s most revolutionary entrepreneurs for the 2019 One Young World award.

Adekunle Silas is the CEO of Reach Robotics – a consumer robotics company, which he started at the University of West England, Bristol.

Adekunle Silas is a Nigerian inventor technology entrepreneur known for creating the world’s first intelligent gaming robot.

The One Young World award honours five young leaders – aged 35 and under – who have been judged on the positive social impact of their business ventures and how they are transforming the way we work, learn, live and eat.

Oluwafayokunmi Olurinola Wins The Ijebu-Ode Future City Challenge [2019]

Ten-year-old, Oluwafayokunmi Olurinola has won The Ijebu-Ode Future City Challenge with his prototype design of plastic roads to solve challenges of deplorable roads in Ijebu-Ode.

The project required for them to identify a need/problem in the city of Ijebu-Ode, proffer a solution and build a prototype of the solution using recyclable/waste materials gotten from their immediate environment. Imagining and creating a city of Ijebu-Ode in the future.

Oluwafayokunmi Olurinola, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) One student of Rosarium Model College, Ijebu – Ode, Ogun State emerged overall winner of competition organized by Exquitec Education Technology.

He polled 157 points to emerge winner. Babasola Al-meen of Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta came second with 154 points, while Lawal Ekundayo of Tai Solarin University Secondary School, clinched third position 90 points.

Team ABU Zaria Emerge 3rd In Global Final Of 2018-2019 Huawei ICT World Competition

Team Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria has emerged in third position at the global final of the 2018-2019 Huawei ICT World Competition in Shenzhen China.

Additionally, ABU Zaria, Nigeria was recognised with an award for Excellent Academy while Dr. Bashir Sadiq of Department of Computer Engineering, ABU Zaria won an award for one of the best instructors.

Farmcrowdy Group Wins UNIDO International Award 2019 On Disruptive Innovation In Agribusiness Technology

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) has awarded Farmcrowdy Group with the award for Disruptive Innovation in Agribusiness Technology at the UNIDO International Award 2019 of Innovative Ideas and Technologies in Agribusiness.

The award, which is in its third series, was given on the 15th of May, 2019 in Rome, Italy.

Dr. Maxwell AzukaMeju Wins 2019 Reginald Fessenden Award

Dr. Maxwell AzukaMeju, has been selected by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) headquartered in Tulsa, USA, for the 2019 Reginald Fessenden Award, one of the highest prizes in exploration geophysics.

A notification by the SEG 2018/2019 President, Robert Stewart, said the award was in recognition of the development of the current cross-gradient joint-inversion method, an invention now widely used in academia and various industries.

Emmanuel Gabriel Develops OBTranslate As ML/AI Assistance For Translating Over 2,000 African Languages

41-year-old Emmanuel Gabriel, has developed OBTranslate – a global Machine learning (ML) / Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistance platform for over 2,000 African language translation.

According to the German-based Emmanuel Gabriel, being the first globally, OBTranslate is an online Common Admission Tool (CAT) for machine learning, AI platforms and neural network systems for over 2,000 African languages. He explained that the drive to expand the Nigerian, African ICT market, create jobs and help improve lives of people motivated him to come up with the innovation.
