Team Nigeria Wins 2019 African Regional Technovation Contest

Team Nigeria with four female students from Princeton College, Lagos emerge winners of the 2019 African regional Technovation Contest, which held in Lagos.

The students developed an application called “Frostbits” to help curb obstructive parking in Lagos and across other states in Nigeria. Frostbits will leverage the use of location sensors, database and app inventor’s interface. User will be able to park their cars without worrying about interference from other drivers through the use of the app.

Alao-Akala Tabitha, Nimatallahi Abdulkadri & Lawal Balikis Triumph At 34th Edition Of CASTIC In China

Alao-Akala Tabitha, Nimatallahi Abdulkadri and Lawal Balikis have won the third place in the International Projects category at the 34th Edition of China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC) in Macao, China.

Alao-Akala Tabitha, Nimatallahi Abdulkadri and Lawal Balikis, students of Doregos Private Academy, Ipaja, Lagos, represented Nigeria with their innovative submissions.

The contest (CASTIC), which had 52 countries participating and over 150 students in attendance, lasted for seven days.

Brain Squad Win People’s Choice Award At 2019 Technovation Challenge

Nigerian all-girls team Brain Squad have won the People’s Choice award after making it to the final round of the 2019 Technovation Challenge.

After winning the State, Regional & National Level, Brain Squad with their impressive fundraising app called ‘Handsout’ unfortunately lost to junior division teams from India and Cambodia in Asia.

Winners Of NiRA 2019 .NG Awards

Winners have emerged in the NiRA 2019 .ng Awards, the fourth in the series of the .ng Awards held on the 5th July 2019 at Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

The .ng Awards organised by the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) celebrate the achievements and innovation of Nigerian Internet initiatives.

The awards promote the Nigerian businesses, individuals, charity, public and private sector organizations, which help to make the Internet a more secure, accessible and rewarding experience for all by using .ng domains for their online presence.

Covenant University Wins The ENACTUS Nigeria National Competition 2019

Covenant University has emerged overall winner of the ENACTUS Nigeria National Competition 2019 themed: “Leapfrogging Human Capital Development”, which held between July 10-11, 2019 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Covenant University ENACTUS team emerged victorious over 18 other teams from various universities across the country. The team had finished in second place for two years in a row both times losing to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU). This time however, they got the better of ABU who finished at second place and in September 2019, will represent Nigeria at the ENACTUS World Cup in San Jose California, USA.

Their project, The Pet City initiative, which focused on turning plastic waste into sustainable building materials that are durable and cost effective, was the project that earned them the victory in this year’s competition. According to their team lead, David Iyiola, the Pet City initiative “will reduce the cost of providing houses by 60% and would increase the annual income and standard of living of 150 women by 25%.”

Their second project: TOLES, is a social enterprise that aims at providing children in impoverished communities with eco-friendly and durable footwear from used and scrap tyres. The team successfully produced and distributed 3,922 footwear, created jobs for 257 persons at the production factory and repurposed over 600 waste tyres. The team expressed gratitude to Guaranty Trust Bank for the 1 million grant that enabled them kick-start the project.

Team Nigeria Wins Teamwork Award At 2019 FIRST LEGO League Junior (FLL Jr.) International Challenge In California

Team Nigeria comprising a team of young Nigerian children, aged 6-10 years, from Port Harcourt, Rivers State have won the Teamwork award at the FIRST® LEGO® League Junior (FLL® Jr.) International Challenge in California, United States of America.

The Challenge held on March 30, 2019 had the Nigerian team members: Okechukwu Samira Peculiar; Amos Uduak and Ayeba-Enenimiete Owatarite. They were coached by Uchechukwu Odiaka and Mercy Makagni.
