Team Astromania Wins 2020 ActinSpace Innovation Challenge [Nigeria]

Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) have awarded Team Astromania, a team of five young Nigerians, as the winner of the 2020 ActinSpace Innovation Challenge.

Team Astromania receives a cash prize of 750,000, laptops, ICT internship programme and an all-expense-paid trip to represent Nigeria in France.

Team Inclusion Wins 2020 EFInA Fintech4WD Hackathon

Team Inclusion has emerged winner of the 2020 Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access (EFInA) Fintech4wd Hackathon.

The hackathon challenged software engineers to develop innovative solutions to help facilitate microenterprises’ access to financial services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim is to improve the operations of MSMEs by providing avenues to raise needed working capital for their businesses and avenues for economic growth.

Rachael Akano, Margaret Akano & Joy Njekwe Emerge Champions Of Technovation Girls 2020

Rachael Akano, Margaret Akano and Joy Njekwe have emerged champions of Technovation Girls 2020 for their “Memory Haven” application.

“Memory Haven”, application which help patients with dementia, emerged successful in the 12-week challenge, which beat out more than 1,500 submissions from 62 countries.

Technovation Girls is an international competition that challenges young women to develop an app that can solve a problem in their community. The annual competition is hosted by Technovation, a nonprofit organization that empowers girls to become leaders in tech.

Team Power Bit Crunchers And Team Zeena Platform Win Lagos Smart Meter Hackathon 2020

Team Power Bit Crunchers (hardware category) and Team Zeena Platform (software category) have emerged as the winners of the 3-Day Finals of the Lagos Smart Meter Hackathon, organized by the Lagos State government.

Both teams earned the combined prize money of 10 million. The winners and runners-up will also get working space at Eko Innovation Centre, while all ten (10) finalists will get mentorship opportunities, among other consolation prizes.

Mr. Olonma Ibrahim and Peter Okonma represented the hardware team, while Oluwasemi Oreoluwa and Adenitire Ayonikun represented the software team at the event.

Team Recycle Rex Win Power Pitch Award In The 2020 Global Conrad Challenge Innovation Competition

Ojih Favour, Idris Elizabeth, Akalugwu Chibuzor & Eghahi Anthony from Team Recycle Rex, students of Government Science and Technical College, Garki Abuja have won the Power Pitch Award in the Global Conrad Challenge Innovation Competition and multiple undergraduate scholarships.

The Conrad Challenge is an annual innovation challenge designed for high school students between the ages of 13 – 18. The challenge is designed for participants to apply their knowledge of science and technology, engineering, and mathematics to solve real-world problems around them. The competition brings together about a thousand five hundred participants worldwide.
