Project Afrilingo has emerged winner of the 2022 World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Hackathon ICTs for indigenous languages held in partnership with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages.
The project is interested in the intersections of technology, media and Ekpeye language preservation. The Ekpeye people are an Igbo subgroup living in the Ahoada regions of Rivers state, Nigeria.
The winning team for Project Afrilingo comprising of Franca Umasoye Igwe, Carl Osimiri and Noah Edet included the creation of a gaming app (prototype) to learn about Indigenous languages and cultures.
