Project Afrilingo has emerged winner of the 2022 World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Hackathon ICTs for indigenous languages held in partnership with the International Decade of Indigenous Languages.

The project is interested in the intersections of technology, media and Ekpeye language preservation. The Ekpeye people are an Igbo subgroup living in the Ahoada regions of Rivers state, Nigeria.

The winning team for Project Afrilingo comprising of Franca Umasoye Igwe, Carl Osimiri and Noah Edet included the creation of a gaming app (prototype) to learn about Indigenous languages and cultures.

Winners of the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Stories have emerged at the 2022 development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) awards held in Abuja.

Four journalists emerged winners in the competition organised by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC) and sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation after holding a training programme for selected journalists.

Winners from the print, online, and broadcast categories received cash prizes and certificates of award.

Austin Onah and Foster Chima emerged first and second runners-up respectively and received cash prizes of ₦600,000 and ₦400,000.

Franca Ovadje has been awarded the Harambee 2022 Prize award for the promotion and equality of African women, her academic and professional merits, as well as for her great social works.

The executive committee of Harambee Spain gave Ovadje the award in recognition of her work for over 20 years in promoting female entrepreneurs and leadership skills development among female undergraduates, which she has been doing voluntarily.
