Tanshi Iroro has received a Whitley Award worth £40,000 to save the short-tailed roundleaf bat after discovering the country’s first and only known population.

The Whitley Awards are presented annually to individuals from the Global South by UK-based charity, the Whitley Fund for Nature.

Winners Of 2021 Nigeria Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA)

Winners have emerged in the 2021 Nigeria Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA), which was held on 26 June 2021 at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

NHEA is an initiative of Global Health Project and Resources in Partnership with Anadach group. The award is designed to celebrate distinguished personalities and organizations who have contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian health sector.

Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Hospital Performs First Successful Laparoscopic Surgery

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) hospital has performed its first successful laparoscopic surgery on a 54 years old patient who had gall bladder stones.

The surgical team was led by Squadron Leader Ismail Tsauni of 063 Nigerian Air Force Hospital, Abuja.

Laparoscopy is an operation performed in the abdomen or pelvis using small incisions (usually 0.5–1.5 cm) with the aid of a camera. The laparoscope aids diagnosis or therapeutic interventions with a few small cuts in the abdomen.

Laparoscopic surgery, also called minimally invasive surgery (MIS), bandaid surgery, or keyhole surgery, is a modern surgical technique.

Raufikat Oyawoye-Salami Wins Season 4 Of The Great Canadian Baking Show

35-year-old Raufikat Oyawoye-Salami has emerged winner of Season 4 of “The Great Canadian Baking Show” after winning over nine other bakers.

She was up against fellow finalists Tanner Davies of Winnipeg, Man. and Mahathi Mundluru of Markham, Ont.

She becomes the first Nigerian to win the competition since the contest started in 2017.

The Great Canadian Baking Show kicked off its season 4 on February 14, 2021, and Raufikat was crowned the winner on April 4, 2021; after 8 weeks of competition.

University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan Successfully Delivers First IVF Triplets

The University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan took delivery of triplets of the first In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) procedure carried out in the hospital.

The 45-minute procedure for the delivery commenced at about 1pm.

The mother and the babies – all females – are in good condition, the hospital authorities.

The babies weighed 1.4 kg, 2.5 kg and 2.4  kg respectively.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina Awarded West African Academy Of Public Health 2020 Distinguished Fellowship Award

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina alongside three others have been awarded the West African Academy Of Public Health 2020 Distinguished Fellowship Award.

The other winners of the West African Academy Of Public Health 2020 Distinguished Fellowship Award are: Tedros Ghebreyesus of the World Health Organization (WHO); Leith Greenslade of JustActions; and Winnie Byanyima of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS.
