Misitura Lawal-Arowona Develops Anti-Tuberculosis Metal Drug

Mrs. Misitura Lawal-Arowona, a PhD scholar with the University of Ilorin and a lecturer at Kebbi State University has successfully developed metal attached anti-tuberculosis drug.

According to a report published in the Sunday Times of India, under a sandwich fellowship at Faculty of Science of The Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) of Baroda, India, Mrs. Misitura Lawal-Arowona, under the supervision of Professor Joshua Obaleye, has promised to tackle the menace of tuberculosis (TB) with the drug both in African countries as well as India.

Hauwa Liman And Saifura Hussaina Awarded Florence Nightingale Medals [2019]

Hauwa Liman And Saifura Hussaina, two nurses abducted and killed in 2018 by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno have been awarded the Florence Nightingale medals, the highest international award in the nursing profession.

Hauwa Liman and Saifura Hussaina were abducted in Rann in March 2018, where they were working as midwives for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The parents of Hauwa Liman and Saifura Hussaina received the medals their late daughters were awarded posthumously at a ceremony led by president of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Bolaji Anani and Eloi Fillion, head of delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

UNIJOS Produces First Plant-based Anti-snake Venom Vaccine (COVIP-plus)

The African Centre of Excellence in Phytomedicine Research and Development (ACEPRD), University of Jos (UniJos), in collaboration with the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, (NOTAP) has produced the world first plant-based anti-snake venom vaccine called COVIP-plus.

The new vaccine was unveiled at a national forum on promotion of Anti-Snake Venom (COVIP-Plus) for commercialisation organised by NOTAP and ACEPRD, on the 17th of July 2019 in Abuja.

Ego Eunice Mgbahurike Becomes First Nigerian To Obtain A PhD In Pharmacognosy At University Of Helsinki, Finland

Ego Eunice Mgbahurike has emerged the first Nigerian [woman] to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Pharmacognosy at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

Pharmacognosy is the study of plants or other natural sources as a possible source of drugs.

EMADET Wins 2019 UNDP Equator Award

Environmental Management and Development Trust (EMADET) Nigeria has emerged one of the 22 winners of the 2019 United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Equator Prize.

The prize is part of the events marking the World Environment Day with the winning organisations showcasing innovative, nature-based solutions for tackling climate change, environment, and poverty challenges.

Aniekeme Uwah Awarded AU Medal Of Honour

The African Union (AU) has conferred a medal of honour on Dr. Aniekeme Uwah, for his role in the fight against the deadly Ebola virus in Liberia.

The AU head of mission in Nigeria, Joshua Obasanya, presented the medal to Dr. Uwah in Abuja, May 24, 2019.

Dr. Aniekeme Uwah, an epidemiologist, works in the ministry of health in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

He was among a few doctors with a requisite knowledge in public health and epidemiology recruited as volunteers by the AU in 2014 to help in the containment of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

Dr. Uwah spent six months in Liberia.
