Obaseki John Folorunsho Eseiwi Emerge UNIBEN Best Graduating Student

Obaseki John Folorunsho Eseiwi has emerged the best graduating student at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) with a Cummulative Grade Point of 4.96.

He also gave the valedictory speech at the convocation ceremony which held on 24th of  November, 2017, the convocation had in attendance the university’s chancellor, HRM Emir Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido II, Emir of Kano.

Obaseki John Folorunsho Eseiwi graduated from the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Life Sciences. He surpassed slightly Tochukwu Okafor of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a CGPA of 4.95.

Awards won by Tochukwu Okafor include:

  • Best Graduating Student, University of Benin.
  • Dean’s Prize to the Best Graduating Student in academic performance, Faculty of Engineering.‎
  • Department Prize to the Best Graduating Student, Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
  • Nigerian Society of Engineers Prize to the Best Overall Graduating Student in the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Arch. Aminu Abubakar Prize to the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
  • Nicholas and Victoria Osifo Memorial Scholarship to the Best Graduating Student in Engineering.

Viola-Nuela Echebima: 1st Class/BGS At UNN [2016] & NLS [2017]

Viola-Nuela Echebima, who graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) in 2016 with a First Class and the best graduating student, also made First Class at the Nigerian Law School (NLS).

Apart from Viola-Nuela Echebima, 28 out of the 4,294 candidate’s called to the Nigerian Bar on the 12th of December 2017, bagged First Class after the August 2017 bar examinations.

Peace Eze Is University of Louisiana 2017 Outstanding Graduate

Peace Eze, a geology major with a 3.82 GPA, has emerged the University of Louisiana (UL) 2017 Outstanding Graduate.

Peace Eze received her award during ceremonies held at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center.

Peace Eze was nominated by the Ray P. Authement College of Sciences. She joined seven other Outstanding Graduate nominees, including: Lauren Lawson, College of the Arts; Andrew Albritton, B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration; Julia Ross, College of Engineering; Brandy K. Milliman, College of Education; Ashley Bernard, College of Liberal Arts; Patrick Williamson, College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions; and Sarah Martin, University College.

Kingsley Osamede Wins 2017 NCDMB Essay Competition

Kingsley Osamede, has won the annual oil and gas essay competition organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

An undergraduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, Kingsley Osamede, 20-year-old Osamede, is a 200-level student of Medicine and Surgery at the university.

The undergraduate, who aims to become a specialist consultant after his MBBS degree, was rewarded with a cash prize of 500,000, a laptop and a plaque.

Kingsley Osamede overcame Augustine Ekele, a 200-level student of Dentistry and Dental Surgery at UNIBEN; Victory Williams of Federal University, Otuoke; Elizabeth Ezekiel, a student of Medicine and Surgery, Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma and Mayeroghene Obodoya of Delta State University, Abraka, to win the coveted award.

Osamede, overjoyed by the win and prize, vowed to rescind his earlier decision to travel abroad to practice after his graduation, saying he now discovered that a lot of opportunities abound in Nigeria.

The winner, who read the winning essay to the admiration of the audience, advocated local content in every sector of the country’s economy in order to drive sustainable growth and development of the country.

In his welcome address, the Project Consultant, Mr. Eyinimi Omorozi, commended the management of NCDMB for organising the competition.

He said the project was intended to promote academic excellence among university and polytechnic students.

He also said  it was aimed at creating awareness for Nigerians, especially the youth who are the real drivers of the Nigerian content initiative to build local capacities and competencies for indigenous participation in the oil and gas industry and develop the talent to create value from that opportunity.

He said the whole idea was institutionalised in line with the established mandate of the NCDMB to partner other organisations to organise conferences, workshops, seminars, training and other public education fora to further the attainment of the goal of developing Nigerian content.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion and Commissioner for Education, Bayelsa State, Mr. Jonathan Obuebite, said capacity development was imperative in developing the country.

In his words:

“Today I am happy that we have come to develop using the essay competition, the mind of our young ones who definitely will take over from us as the future of our great country.”

Adesoji Adesina & Bruce Onobrakpeya Win 2017 Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) Awards

Professor Yemi Osinbajo has conferred the 2017 Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) award on Professor Adesoji Adesina and Mr. Bruce Onobrakpeya at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

85 -year-old Professor Bruce Onobrakpeya is the winner of Nigerian National Order of Merit Award in Humanity 2017.

In the course of his enchanting career as an artist, Onobrakpeya has held more than one hundred art exhibitions.

The first of which took place in Ughelli in 1959.

Elizabeth Ezekiel Wins 2017 NIMASA Maritime Essay Competition

Elizabeth Ezekiel, has emerged overall winner of the 2017 Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA maritime essay competition.

The 2017 NIMASA maritime essay competition commemorates the 2017 World Maritime Day (WMD) celebration.

Miss Ezekiel’s essay was adjudged the best out of 180 entries by an independent panel of judges on the topic “Connecting Ships, Ports and People”, which is the theme for the 2017 WMD celebration.

Chinasa Ufodu Emerge UNN Best Graduating Student [2017]

Chinasa Ufodu has emerged the overall best graduating student of University of Nigeria, Nsukka from department of Pharmacy with a CGPA of 4.903 on scale of 5.00.

Miss Chinelo Okafor also emerged the best graduating student (Faculty of Health Science) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) [2017].

She graduated with a first class in the department of Medical Rehabilitation.

Miss Chinelo Okafor is the Best graduating student in the Faculty of Health Science & Technology, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

Miss Chinelo Okafor received several Awards for her excellent academic performance at the Award ceremony held at Princess Alexandra Auditorium, UNN.

The awards were presented to her by the Vice Chancellor of University of Nigeria, Professor Benjamin Ozumba.
