Professor Florence Obi Emerges First Female Vice-Chancellor Of University Of Calabar (UNICAL)

Professor Florence Obi has emerged the first female Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in its 45-year-old history.

Professor Florence Obi of the Faculty of Education is to succeed Professor Zana Akpagu, whose tenure would elapse on November 30 [2020].

The choice of Professor Florence Obi was announced on the 11th of September 2020 by the 12th Governing Council of the university as the 11th Vice Chancellor-elect at the UNICAL Hotel in Calabar after emerging winner out of 13 contestants.

Okwubi Godwin Adah Wins Poets In Nigeria (PIN) 2020 Nigerian Students Poetry Prize

Okwubi Godwin Adah has emerged the overall winner of the Poets in Nigeria (PIN) 2020 Nigerian Students Poetry Prize announced at an award ceremony at Virgin Rose Resorts, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Okwubi Godwin Adah, a 400-level student of Anatomy, University of Benin, won the first prize with his poem titled ‘The House That Built Me’.

Thelma Ihenacho Wins 2020 Wole Soyinka Essay Competition [Global Junior Category]

Thelma Ihenacho of Meadow Hall School has emerged global junior winner in the 2020 Wole Soyinka Essay Competition in the francophone and anglophone category.

Thelma Ihenacho receives a prize of $600.

The competition received more than 2,000 entries from more than 20 countries.

Tyrone Nkululeko Takawira from Zimbabwe of Ashesi University emerged global senior winner.

Other winners include: Toluwanimi Sonuga and Joseph Divine from Nigeria, Emily Suh from the USA, Shaoyuan Li from China, Vera Honham Anthonio from Ghana, Sampada Dahal from Nepal, and Pamphile Sassi Aubert from China/Nigeria.

The topic of the competition this year was “I AM because YOU ARE”, philosophy on the interdependence of the human family.

Covenant University Wins 2020 Enactus Nigeria Leadership And Entrepreneurship Challenge

A team from Covenant University, Ota Ogun State have emerged the national champion of the 2020 Enactus Nigeria leadership and entrepreneurship challenge.

Covenant University team’s Pet City project an environmental sustainability social enterprise structured to systematically remove plastic waste and nylon from the environment by recycling them into construction materials was adjudged the best at the 2020 competition. It was also adjudged the best in the 2019 edition of the competition.

The team from Covenant University by emerging national champion will be representing Nigeria, and competing with 35 other national champion teams at the Enactus World Cup 2020 in Netherlands in September 2020.

Blessing Odesola Wins 2020 WAG-ARC Bi-annual Research Competition

Blessing Odesola has emerged winner of the Women and Girls Advancements and Resources Centre (WAG-ARC) bi-annual research competition, carried out amongst undergraduates in universities across Nigeria.

Blessing Odesola is a 22-year-old 400 level student of the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan.

Blessing Odesola, who is the student campus ambassador of a digital company, a co-host on a campus show on Inspiration 100.5 FM Ibadan and a student volunteer, wrote on the topic – Addressing Youth Marginalisation: A Link Between Youth Employment and Capacity Building as a Tool for Youth Development in Nigeria.

David Roluga has emerged the overall winner of the maiden Save-A-Lot Media Mobile Classroom monthly quiz.

David Roluga is a senior secondary (SS) 3 student of Mayflower School, Ikenne, Ogun State.

Saffiyah Abdulhammed of Powerfield Group of School, Lagos State and Ibukunoluwa Arowosafe, Advanced Breed Comprehensive College, Ogun State were announced as first and second runners-up respectively during a winners’ party and media event held on Zoom on August 1st, 2020.

The top 20 students who emerged winners of the competition were awarded 20,000 cash prizes.
