Mariam Ayolola Kaka wins “Fight for Freedom” art competition organised by Never Such Innocence charity group with her art work entry: “Nostalgic Salutation to Fallen Heroes“.

Mariam Ayolola Kaka is a Senior Secondary School student of Olabisi Onabanjo University International School, Ogun State.

The organising charity group, Never Such Innocence, said no fewer than 4,000 entries were received from 44 countries, territories and dependencies from around the world.

Dapo Olorunyomi Receives CPJ 2020 International Press Freedom Award

Dapo Olorunyomi has been honored alongside four others with the 2020 International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Dapo Olorunyomi is the co-founder, CEO, and publisher of the Nigerian newspaper Premium Times, which today is one of the most trusted newspapers in Nigeria and a standard for African investigative journalism.

Dapo Olorunyomi has dedicated his life to holding the powerful to account and is a fierce advocate for press freedom.

Dapo Olorunyomi worked as an editor at other Nigerian media outlets, including PM News, which he helped co-found; Radio Nigeria; The African Guardian magazine; and NEXT newspapers. In 2005, he founded the Lagos-based Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, named after Africa’s first Nobel laureate in literature and dedicated to exposing corruption and human rights abuses. He also co-founded the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism, a partner organization to the newspaper, which has its own press freedom tracker.

Dapo Olorunyomi serves on the advisory boards of nonprofit organizations Africa Check and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism.

Wana Udobang Joins 54th International Writing Programme (IWP) Fall Residency At University Of Iowa, USA

Wana Udobang has been selected to participate in the 54th International Writing Programme (IWP) Fall Residency at the University of Iowa, courtesy of the United States Department of State.

Over the course of 11 weeks, Wana Udobang will join 29 other accomplished writers from across the globe in the world’s oldest and largest multinational writing residency. She and the other participants will give readings and lectures that share their work and cultures, collaborate with artists from other genres and art forms, and travel to interact with audiences and literary communities across the United States of America.

In addition, the residency will provide the writers a one-of-a-kind inter-cultural opportunity to forge productive relationships with colleagues and translators, and take part in the vibrant social and academic life of the University of Iowa as well as the larger American literary scene.

Vincent Kolo won the visual art category with his artwork ‘The Cords of Yesterday’.
