Taiwo Adebulu has emerged winner of the Fact-Check of the Year by a Working Journalist at the 2020 African Fact-Checking Awards.
Mr. Taiwo Adebulu, a reporter with The Cable, won the award for his piece; ‘FACT CHECK: Nigeria told UN that 7 varsities run strictly on renewable energy, but is this true?’
In his fact-check, Taiwo Adebulu investigated how Nigeria’s minister of environment had grossly misinformed the United Nations at its Climate Action Summit in 2019.
Winners have emerged at the 2020 PwC Media Excellence Awards.
The PwC Media Excellence Awards celebrates and rewards excellence in business reporting in Nigeria. The competition is open to professional journalists on a full time employment or freelancers, working in Nigeria, who have produced a story that falls within the categories covered by the award and that is available on a platform whose primary audience is Nigeria.
The overall quality improved so much to a level that PwC decided to award prizes to 10 additional entries.

Moses Inwang has won the ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best International’ awards at the 2020 The People’s Film Festival (TPFF) for his movie, ‘Cold Feet’.
Other winners include: ‘The Meeting That Shaped Amerikkka’ (Kristopher Adams, Joshua Austin) for Best Feature Film; ‘The Reading’ (Garrick Wade) for Best Short Film; ‘Ruth Maingi – Poker (Dancurf Brown of Kenya) for Best Actress.
‘The New Normal’ has emerged winner of the Best International Narrative Features category at the 24th American Black Film Festival (ABFF) awards.
The 24th American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Awards ceremony, which was held online, took place from August 21-30, 2020.
The international narrative features category is a competitive section for feature-length films directed by or written and produced by persons of African descent. The cash prize is $2,500.
Mariam Ayolola Kaka wins “Fight for Freedom” art competition organised by Never Such Innocence charity group with her art work entry: “Nostalgic Salutation to Fallen Heroes“.
Mariam Ayolola Kaka is a Senior Secondary School student of Olabisi Onabanjo University International School, Ogun State.
The organising charity group, Never Such Innocence, said no fewer than 4,000 entries were received from 44 countries, territories and dependencies from around the world.
Irenosen Okojie has emerged the winner of the 2020 AKO Caine Prize for African Writing for her short fiction story “Grace Jones” – an impersonator of a Jamaican model.
