Cosmos Abasi Wins Inaugural Nollywood Screen Writing Contest (NSWC)

Cosmos Abasi has emerged winner of the inaugural Nollywood Screen Writing Contest (NSWC) instituted by Lawrence Onuzulike to draw the attention of the public to the remarkable work of screenwriters in Nigeria.

Aforevo, a filmmaking company, organisers of Nollywood Screen Writing Contest, on May 6, 2022 rewarded the overall winner of the contest, Cosmos Abasi, with ₦1 million, while the 1st runner-up, Abundance Effiong got ₦500,000 and 2nd runner-up, Dolly Nwaduba received ₦300,000.

Gabriel Jimoh Wins 2022 Canon Photography Competition (Economic Category)

Gabriel Jimoh has emerged winner of the 2022 Canon Photography Competition in the economic category ‘Moments that develop us’.

Held in collaboration with the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), the competition was launched with an intent to drive meaningful change and sustainable action through the power of visual storytelling at Expo 2020 Dubai last year.

Emmanuel Ikechukwu Umeonyirioha has become the first official Igbo lecturer at Oxford University, England as the university introduced the teaching of Igbo Language as a course in the university.

Igbo is spoken mainly by the Igbo people who occupy the South-east region of Nigeria and millions of people of Igbo extraction who reside in different parts of the world.

Obari Gomba Wins 2022 PAWA Poetry Prize

Obari Gomba has won the 2022 Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) poetry prize. He won the prize, worth $2,000, with his collection of poems, The Lilt Of The Rebel.

Obari Gomba, a Professor of English at the University of Port Harcourt and currently fellow at the University of Oxford, was announced as the winner after beating other five shortlisted Nigerians in a virtual ceremony on 3 March 2022.

The shortlisted poets included Echezonachukwu Nduka (Chrysanthemum For Wide Eyed Ghosts), Tanure Ojaide (A Poetic Diary Of The Coronavirus Epidemic) Servio Gbadamosi (Where The Light Enters You), and Olumide Olaniyan (Akimbo In Limbo).

Boluwatife Aderounmu (Animation), Oyedele Philemon Oluwakoyejo (Infographics) and Terrance Mawanga (Essays) have emerged winners of the 2021 YALDA AfCFTA Youth Creative Competition.

The Youth Alliance for Leadership and Development in Africa (YALDA) in collaboration with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, African Export-Import Bank (Afrexim Bank), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the International Trade Centre (ITC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced the winners of the joint AfCFTA Youth Creative Competition.

Eleven Nigerians Selected Into African #YouTubeBlackVoices Creator Class Of 2022

Eleven (11) Nigerians have been selected into the African #YouTubeBlackVoices Creator Class of 2022.

YouTube is announcing that 26 talented African creators will join the global Black Voices Creator Class of 2022. They are selected as part of 133 creators from around the world and across various niches. Including 40 from US and Canada, 35 from Brazil, and 34 from the United Kingdom. They will receive access to resources such as partner support and seed funding to help them grow on YouTube.

The 26 African YouTube creators and grantees come from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.

Michael Ogbochukwu Wins WeNaija Photography Competition [2022]

Michael Ogbochukwu has emerged overall winner of the WeNaija Photography Competition [2022] organised by the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF).

The WeNaija Photography Competition tagged: Visions of Nigeria, which came to an end with the exhibition held at the Coronation Gallery, Victoria Island, Lagos, saw Michael Ogbochukwu, taking the top position and was rewarded with ₦500,000 for his photo titled: The Abnormal Normal; Joshua Iragbie for his photo titled: Nigeria In COVID-19 and Onoseizame Dele-Damisa (Isolated), came 2nd and third, and received ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively.
