Ayodeji Awoyomi Wins BIPP 2024 International Prints Photographer Of The Year Award

Ayodeji Awoyomi, a fine art photographer, has emerged winner of the 2024 International Prints Photographer of the Year award organised by the British Institute of Professional Photographers (BIPP).

He is the first Nigerian to win the award.

Awoyomi’s groundbreaking work in creative fine art photography captured the attention of the juries from around the world who adjudged his entry the top spot in the student category of the highly competitive award.

Over 1,000 photographers from across the globe vied for the coveted title, but Awoyomi’s innovative and artistic work earned the artist the top spot of the entries.

What began for him as a childhood hobby nurtured by a gift of a Konica camera from his father, blossomed into a lifelong pursuit.

Despite initial aspirations of becoming a lawyer or doctor, Awoyomi’s heart remained drawn to the art of capturing images.

According to Ayodeji Awoyomi:

“Photography has been a constant hobby in my life.

I’ve always been fascinated by the ability to capture moments and emotions in a single frame. So winning this award is a dream come true. It is a testament to the endless possibilities that photography has offered me.”

He recalled the defined career he has had in modeling which had earned him other awards and equally engaged him in a few runways like Lagos Fashion Week.

He revealed that he didn’t choose photography but was chosen by photography. He pointed out that since he answered the call to go into fine art photography through creative intuitions, his works had been shown around the world in exhibitions, journals and international editorials.

Ayodeji was born into the family of Prince and Chief (Mrs.) Bamidele Awoyomi of the Odoba royal dynasty of Usi Kingdom, Ekiti State.
