Ada Peter Emerges SUSI Scholar on U.S. National Security and Policy making Award [2017]

An Assistant Professor, Media, Peace and National Security, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Dr. Ada Peter, has been recognised by the U.S. Department of State as SUSI scholar on U.S. National Security and Policy making.

The Study of the United States Institutions (SUSI) on Security and Foreign Policymaking is a globally-recognised prestigious and extremely competitive award from the U.S. Department of State, Washington D.C.  More than 18 countries apply for the award through the U.S. embassies in their respective countries.

Ademilola Odujinrin

Ademilola Odujinrin, who works for Air Djibouti has become the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world.

Mr. Odujinrin completed the final leg of his historic journey on Wednesday, landing safely at the Washington Dulles International Airport in the United States.

The pilot finished the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, and returning to Washington D.C., where his journey began in September, 2016.

The flight is part of Project Transcend, a foundation which aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals, regardless of their personal circumstances.

On his historic feat, Ademilola Odujinrin said:

“Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day flying around the world. We have a responsibility to lead by example and follow our dreams”.

He said he wants African children to also think in the direction of “I can do this too”.

Team Nigeria Triumph At 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games

Special Olympics Nigeria athletes at the 2017 World Winter Games in Austria against all odds gave an outstanding performance winning a total of 20 medals.

Twenty two athletes participated at the Winter Games and nine officials. Special Olympics Nigeria athletes won twenty medals; twelve gold medals and eight silver medals.

2016 WAEC’s Overall Best Performing School in Nigeria

Lumen Christi International High School, Uromi, Edo state emerged the overall best performing school in Nigeria by clinching the Augustus Bandele Oyediran trophy for producing the best overall results in the 2016 West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Lumen Christi International High School emerged winner with best aggregate, determined on the results of best 50 candidates based on their grades in English Language, Mathematics and a Science subject.

The school having as its motto, The Best or Nothing, has won the prestigious awards instituted in 1985 five times in a row entering the hall of fame like other past winners such as Queens College, Yaba and Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja.

Since 1985, only 12 schools have won the award. Queens College, Yaba won the maiden edition and five consecutive times. Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja has also won it six times in a row.

The event coincided with WAEC’s 65th Annual Council meeting held in Abuja, which was declared open by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
