Adedipe Oluwatosin Is Young Scientist of the Year [2017]

16-year-old Adedipe Oluwatosin, an SSS III student from Shepherd International School, Ado-Ekiti has been crowned Young Scientist of the Year [2017], after winning the Young Nigerian Scientist Presidential Award at a ceremony held at Eagle’s Square, Abuja.

Adedipe Oluwatosin emerged best at a competition organised by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, out of a total of 774 candidates (drawn from all the local government areas in the country) who participated both at the preliminary and the final stages.

In recognition of this achievement, the Ekiti State Government very recently awarded a cash prize of 2.5 million Naira to Adedipe as well as an annual scholarship grant of 1million Naira per annum for a period of four years as funding for his undergraduate studies.

Adedipe Oluwatosin was also the 2016 winner of the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) National Science Competition.

African Child Prize Award 2017

Dr. Edward Nkwegu has been presented the prestigious African Child Prize Award 2017 for Leadership in Development of the African Child for meritorious activities in children and women empowerment.

According to Owosakponome Donaldson, representative of the African Child Foundation:

“Edward Nkwegu is well deserving of this award especially through the activities of his non-profit organisation, Regina Pacis Foundation, that helps the poor.”

The awards commemorate the 2017 International Day of the African Child (June 16), organised by the African Child Foundation, in Lagos.

The International Day of the African Child was first established by the Organisation of the African Unity (OAU) in 1991 and aims at raising awareness for the situation of children in African, as well as on the need for continuing improvement in education. It also encouraged people’s spirit of abundance to share something special with a child in Africa.

Remita Wins DigitalPay Expo Awards 2017

Remita has been honoured as the Most Innovative Mobile Payment Solution of the Year at the DigitalPay Expo Awards 2017 in recognition of its contributions to the improvement of the payments processing experiences of individuals and businesses in Nigeria, through the innovation introduced by its Remita Mobile App.

According to the organisers of the awards, the recognition was bestowed on Remita because it provides “the most user-friendly payment application interface and accuracy in transactions settlements”.

The DigitalPay Expo Awards, formerly known as CardExpo Awards, is an annual three-day conference organised by Intermarc Consulting in partnership to showcase the most exciting developments within Africa’s payment industry.

Alexandria Braie Emerges Babcock’s Best Graduating Student [2016/17]

Alexandria Braie, 22, of the Department of Accounting, School of Management Sciences, Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State, has emerged the best graduating student of the institution with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.90 in the 2016/2017 academic session.

Alexandria Braie was among the 90 First Class students out of a total of 1,807 graduates the institution produced in the 2016/2017 academic session.
Surprisingly, Braie beat Temitope Odunayo Nwachukwu of the department of Chemistry, School of Science and Technology, who had a CGPA of 4.91 because she stood out at the undergraduate programmes in leadership, community and spiritual , aside just academics.

Ms. Braie aspires to be a Chartered Accountant and a consultant.

Lawrence Folajimi Awosika Is Re-Elected UNCLCS Chairman [2017-22]

Professor Lawrence Folajimi Awosika, has been re-elected as Chairman of the United Nation’s Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) [2017].

Professor Lawrence Folajimi Awosika polled 154 out of 157 votes to emerge Chair of the prestigious 21-person UN scientific body.
