Team Nigeria has won the 16th Union of African Karate Federations Zone 3 Championships in Cotonou by winning seven medals.
Team Nigeria won two gold, two silver, and four bronze at the Championships that took place between 6th and 13th August 2017.
According to Godspower Ede, media aide to the President of the Karate Federation of Nigeria:
“The national karate team made up of six athletes – four boys and two girls, put up a superlative performance to win two gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the championship.”
Tioluwani Comfort has emerged the 2017 best graduating student with distinction in Law (LLM) at University of Wales, United Kingdom. She is a graduate of the University of Abuja where she got her first degree in law.
According to Tioluwani Comfort:
“I attribute my success to the Lord Jesus Christ because nobody receives anything on earth except it be given to him from heaven because in all fairness, I never expected that I would graduate with a distinction in LLM Law let alone graduate as the best student. Asurf Oluseyi has won a prestigious Award of Merit from the IndieFEST Film Awards for his debut feature film, Hakkunde.
Hakkunde is an intriguing story of a long-time unemployed graduate; Akande, faced with life’s pressures, he decides to relocate to Kaduna from Lagos when an opportunity presents itself.
His expectation is however cut short and Akande must make a decision to either learn to survive in a faraway land or return back to failure.
According to Asurf Oluseyi:
“I’m super excited about the news as this is the first award to the title, and connecting to juries out of Nigeria shows the power of story telling.
“The movie stemmed from my personal experiences and it is a universal entity that must be discussed and creating this movie is my own attempt to help solve this universal problem from my own understanding of it, and this award is a big motivation to do better next time.”
The movie features Frank Donga, Ali Nuhu, Maryam Booth, Ibrahim Daddy, Isa Bello Ja, Rahama Sadau and Hadiza Soja.

Soyoye Abel has won the 2017 International Strongbow Chess Tournament in Ghana. The highly competitive tournament featured players from across West Africa with Soyoye Abel unbeaten throughout the seven rounds of the three-day tournament.
Soyoye Abel defeated the Ghanaian National Chess Champion, Adu Jnr Lionel and picked a draw in the final round against International Master, Anquandah Francis to win the tournament.
My next target is to keep participating in more championships to sharpen my skills in chess.”
Nigerian female wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye, has emerged world number one at the 55 kg category following adjustment to re-align the rankings with entry lists for the August 21-26 world championships.
The feat was possible for the 2014 Commonwealth gold medalist as world champion Mayu Mukaida of Japan drops to 53 kg in the championship.
Adekuoroye, second-ranked last month at 55 kg, won the Golden Grand Prix Final last November in Baku and also claimed a gold medal at the 2017 African senior championships in April.
