UI & UNIABUJA Win 2018 YIAGA Africa Tertiary Institution Affirmative Action Debate

University of Ibadan (UI) and University of Abuja (UniAbuja) have emerged joint winners of the YIAGA Africa tertiary institution affirmative action debate across Nigeria.

The two universities emerged at the grand finale of the debate in Abuja after defeating their other counterparts from the six geo-political zones.

Ezenwa Nwagwu, a board member of YIAGA Africa announced the final results, saying the affirmative action debate was part of the group’s commitment to promote democracy with youth inclusion as one of the thematic areas.

The Love Of A Nigerian! By Abdullateef Olasubomi Abdul

Generally, Nigerians are kind, cooperative, tolerant and well-meaning towards one another and to the rest of humanity. Maybe not all of us but many of us are. This fact may however be blurred and continues to be undermined by recurring problems confronting us as a nation. For instance, now in our 58th year post-independence, we still continue to grapple with problems such as gross insecurity, poverty, mass unemployment, corruption and ethnic strife. Even the newspapers often read gory headlines: “120 people slaughtered in Benue”, “Youth, 22, nabbed for armed robbery”, “Naira slumps further to the Dollar in the parallel market”, “Boko Haram bombs church in Maiduguri” and so forth.

Kaywood Elijah Leizou wins the 2018 World Chemical Sciences (Metal Speciation in Sediment) Championship defeating 5,845 other nominations from 89 other countries.

The International Agency for Standards and Ratings (IASR) recognises Mr. Kaywood Leizou as the new world champion and among the world’s 500 most influential experts on earth in chemical sciences for the year 2018.

Olajide Folarin, Sadiq Aderinto & Stanley Dukor Win Data Science Nigeria 2018 Inter-Campus Machine Learning Competition

Olajide Folarin, Sadiq Aderinto and Stanley Dukor have emerged joint winners of the Data Science Nigeria 2018 Inter-Campus Machine Learning Competition.

The three students (Olajide Folarin – Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; Sadiq Aderinto and Stanley Dukor – University of Lagos, Akoka) emerged winners following an intensive five-day boot camp.

The competition was sponsored by Bluechip Technologies and organised by Data Science Nigeria.

Izeowayi Izaza Victor Wins Inaugural BBC News Pidgin Essay Competition [2018]

Izeowayi Izaza Victor has won the first edition of the BBC News Pidgin essay competition titled, “Is Africa’s youth ready for political leadership.”

Izeowayi’s winning piece focused on the paradox of Africa that has 60 per cent of its population from a younger demographic yet produces political leaders who are often 70 and above.

Izeowayi Izaza Victor, a 21-year-old undergraduate of University of Port Harcourt, had his entry chosen from amongst 18 other entries submitted by talented young African writers.

First Bank of Nigeria has been presented with the award of the Best Bank in Nigeria by Global Finance in its World’s Best Banks Award 2018 held on the sidelines of the World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings in Bali, Indonesia.

At the Awards, Zenith Bank emerged the Best Bank in Sierra Leone and Zenith Bank Ghana emerged the Best Bank in Ghana.
