The Love Of A Nigerian! By Adu Michael Adeyemi

Very few countries are culturally and ethno-religiously as diverse as Nigeria. With over 190 million people divided across more than 250 ethnic groups, over 520 languages, and several religious beliefs and sects, the country is an exemplary sample of a multifarious nation. This is the complexity that many people perhaps fail to comprehend and put into writing.

In spite of the supposed differences still, volksgeist, the ‘spirit’ of the people is not lacking. One may see this diversity in many Nigerian families. A typical Nigerian family could have the parents from distinct ethnic group and separate religious beliefs – with the children, a blend of several cultures, choosing to go with either religion of their parents at their will.

Team NSCDC Wins 2018 Korean Ambassador Cup

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (Team NSCDC) wins and retains the Korean Ambassador Cup for the sixth consecutive time.

Team NSCDC, adjudged as overall best team after the annual competition won seven medals, comprising of three gold, one and three bronze to topple Team Oyo state with four medals – three gold and one silver. They were placed second.

Q-Madi of Lagos came third with four medals including two gold, one silver and one bronze during the 2018 Korean Ambassador Cup

Hannah Ojo Wins 2018 Nigerian Academy Of Science (NAS) Media Award

Hannah Ojo, a reporter with The Nation, has won the 2018 Nigerian Academy of Science (NAS) media award at a dinner held at Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Ikeja.

For being the overall winner, Hannah Ojo was presented with a plaque, 200,000 and a 50,000 gift voucher from Vita Foam, sponsors of the awards.

NEPC Wins World Trade Promotion Organisations (WTPO) Award [2018]

The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has won the 2018 World Trade Promotion Organisations (WTPO) award in the category of the best initiative to ensure that trade are inclusive and sustainable at a ceremony in Paris, France.

The Executive Director of ITC Ms Arancha González stated that the participating Trade Promotion Organisations who responded to ITC’s invitation to compete for the awards went through a two-step rigorous assessment process, which was completely independent of ITC.

It is the first time NEPC receives a World Trade Promotion Organisations award.

NEPC works with partners across ministries, departments, agencies and private sectors to promote inclusive and sustainable non-oil export of Nigerian products.

The 2018 World Cancer Congress organised by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has elected Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu and 11 other new board members to serve a two-year term.

Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu who is the founder, Medicaid Cancer Foundation (MCF) and wife of the Kebbi State governor, Dr. Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu is the only African and Nigerian to have been elected to the board of the organisation which, exists to accelerate the global fight against cancer.

Enugu Rangers & Rivers Angels Win 2018 Aiteo Cup

Enugu Rangers and Rivers Angels emerge winners of the 2018 Aiteo Cup (otherwise known as the Federation Cup) in the male and female categories respectively.

Enugu Rangers recorded a thrilling comeback from three goals down to beat Kano Pillars 4-2 on penalties to win the Cup at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba thereby securing their First Federation cup title after 35 years and have been awarded 25 million Naira after emerging champions.
