Dr. Akinwumi Adesina Named 2019 Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate

The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee has announced the selection of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and Waris Dirie as its 2019 laureates at the Cape Town International Convention Center.

53-year-old Waris Dirie is a world-class supermodel and anti-FGM activist while Dr. Akinwumi Adesina currently serves as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The Sunhak Peace Prize honours individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to the peace and the welfare of the future generations.

The Sunhak Peace Prize includes a cash prize totaling $1 million.

Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto Wins New Hampshire Institute Of Art 2018 Writing Award

Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto, has won the New Hampshire Institute of Art 2018 Writing Award: Narratives in Prose, Poetry.

As the winner, Mr. Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto wins a $100 prize money and and $5,000 worth of scholarship to study MFA in New Hampshire.

The NHIA writing programme is centred on the idea of deeply examining stories that effectively communicate an idea in any genre.

Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto Wins 2018 Castillo di Duino Poesia Prize

Chinua Ezenwa-Ohaeto has been declared the overall first winner in the 2018 Castillo di Duino Poesia Prize, Italy with a reward of €500.

He became the 14th edition winner in the competition with his poem titled “My Home: May a Dawn bring a new Smile upon it” that involved 16 contestants from different parts of the world.

He graduated from the department of English language, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

CashMadam Wins 2018 TEF Pitching Competition

CashMadam wins the 2018 Tony Elumelu Foundation, TEF Pitching Competition during the TEF Entrepreneurship Forum 2018, which took place at the Balmoral Event Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos.

Five TEF entrepreneurs took part in a pitching competition anchored by BBC News Correspondent, Mayeni Jones.

The entrepreneurs were Vital Sounovou of Exportunity (Benin Republic), Sandra Onwuekwu of Ecoprune (Nigeria), Jessica Rakotoarisa of Nomad Solar Bag (Madagascar), Mohamed Dhaouafi of Cure Medicare (Tunisia) and Mahassin Quadri of CashMadam (Nigeria).

Nigerian Winners Of 2018 Google Impact Challenge In Africa

Nigerian winners have emerged at the first Google Impact Challenge in Africa during simultaneous events held in Lagos, Johannesburg and Nairobi.

This is in part fulfillment of Google’s commitment to grant a total of $20 million, over the next five years, to non-profits that are working to improve lives across Africa.

The first tranche, $6 million in total, is granted to the newly declared winners — 12 from each represented country (Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa), 36 in total.

Shalom Chorale have emerged winners of the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of The Year 2018 competition in the United Kingdom.

Shalom Chorale is a gospel choir group in the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries church (MFM) United Kingdom. The Shalom Chorale is a group of singers with a passion for music and faith in God with their mission being to share the message of peace and love through godly music.

The annual event organized by the British Broadcasting Commission (BBC) Songs of Praise, had several choirs from around Great Britain enter in, but only 5 were selected as finalists, with Shalom Chorale emerging as winners during the final episode on 25th November, which was aired on BBC One.

Ubon James Wins 2018 NCDMB Essay Competition

Ubon James has emerged the winner of the second edition of the annual national oil and gas essay competition organised by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB).

Ubon James is a first year student of Electronics and Computer Technology at the University of Calabar, Cross River State.

The essay submitted by the 27-year-old was adjudged the best amongst over 3000 entries contributed by first and second year students from universities across the country.

He was rewarded with a cash prize of 500,000, a laptop and a plaque.

The essay topic of the competition was titled: “Harnessing Local Content Potentials in the Oil And Gas Industry For Nigeria’s Industrial and Economic Development.”
