Oluwaseyi Shorinola, Emmanuel Balogun & Rufus Akinyemi Win 2019 FLAIR Fellowship Award

Oluwaseyi Shorinola, Emmanuel Balogun, Rufus Akinyemi and 27 other early career African scientists honoured with the 2019 FLAIR Fellowship Award.

Emmanuel Balogun, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria; Dr. Rufus Akinyemi, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Dr. Oluwaseyi Shorinola, made the list of FLAIR project of the African Academy of Sciences and The Royal Society in Naivasha, Kenya.

The scientists receive $391,500 each for a two- year research project aimed at developing the continent.

Tochukwu Ndukwe Wins 2018 Nigerian Mathematics Queen Competition

13-year-old Tochukwu Ndukwe, of the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) Leeja, Nsukka, Enugu State has emerged the overall winner of the 2018 Nigerian Mathematics Queen Competition.

Saibu Medina from FESTAC College, Lagos, took second position while Olayiwola Adedagun, FGGC, Ketu, Osun came third at the competition.

115 female students of Junior Secondary School across the country participated in the Girls’ Mathematics Olympiad Competition, organised by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Kobo360 Named Disrupter Of The Year At 2019 Africa CEO Awards

Kobo360 has been named Disrupter of the Year at the 2019 Africa CEO Forum Awards at the Kigali Convention Centre in Kigali, Rwanda.

In a statement on Tuesday (26 March), the Africa CEO Forum said the Lagos-based e-logistics startup received the accolade for registering “immediate and significant success” in a sector in which the forum said costs are higher in Africa than anywhere in the world.

Kobo360 was up against fellow nominees Jumia, Africa’s Talking, Baobab+ and Intouch for the award.

Nigerian Female Wrestlers Win 2019 African Senior Wrestling Championship

Team Nigeria has emerged winners of the female category and also retained their crown as continental champions at the 2019 African Wrestling Championship held in Hammamet, Tunisia.

Nigeria finished tops with 195 points, hosts Tunisia was second with 177 points, Egypt came third with 160 points, Algeria recorded 83 points to finish fourth while Senegal completed the top five with 57 points.

Nigeria registered ten female wrestlers for the 2019 African Wrestling Championship but only nine got busy on the mat and produced 5 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. Esther Kolawole couldn’t compete in the women’s 55 kg category after hurting her knee in training.
