UNIJOS Produces First Plant-based Anti-snake Venom Vaccine (COVIP-plus)

The African Centre of Excellence in Phytomedicine Research and Development (ACEPRD), University of Jos (UniJos), in collaboration with the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, (NOTAP) has produced the world first plant-based anti-snake venom vaccine called COVIP-plus.

The new vaccine was unveiled at a national forum on promotion of Anti-Snake Venom (COVIP-Plus) for commercialisation organised by NOTAP and ACEPRD, on the 17th of July 2019 in Abuja.

Redeemers International Schools Win Inaugural Educraft Abacus Lagos Schools Competition

Redeemers International Schools (RIS), Apapa emerge first place winner of the maiden Abacus Lagos Schools Competition organised by Educraft Nigeria Limited in preparing children for mathematical challenges.

The representatives of Redeemers International Schools defeated two other schools, Devine Children Place and Epitome Kiddies Care School, which emerged second and third positions respectively to be honoured with the most prestigious SIP Abacus School.

Devine Children Place, won the Most Supportive and Loyal SIP Abacus School, while Epitome Kiddies Care School was recognised as the Most Progressive SIP Abacus School.

There was no cash reward at the maiden edition; medals, trophies and plaques were presented to the winners of each category of the competition.

Abdullahi Abubakar Conferred Inaugural USA Religious Freedom Award

The United States of America has conferred Religious Freedom Award on Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, who saved over 200 Christians during an attack from suspected herdsmen in Plateau State.

Abubakar received the award alongside Mohamed Yosaif Abdalrahan (Sudan), Ivanir dos Santos (Brazil), William and Pascale Warda (Iraq) and Salpy Eskidjian Weiderud (Cyprus).

The first-ever International Religious Freedom Awards ceremony was hosted by Secretary Pompeo on the 17th of July 2019 in the United States of America. The award honours extraordinary advocates of religious freedom from around the world.

Access Bank Wins 2019 Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Award

Access Bank has emerged winner of the 2019 Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards for ‘Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement’.

This is the fourth time Access Bank would win the award and the bank received the award at a ceremony held at the City Hall, Karlsruhe, Germany.

The award is in recognition of the bank’s  commitment to embedding social, environmental and economic sustainability into its core business strategy that helps address issues across its business operations and value chain.

Covenant University Wins The ENACTUS Nigeria National Competition 2019

Covenant University has emerged overall winner of the ENACTUS Nigeria National Competition 2019 themed: “Leapfrogging Human Capital Development”, which held between July 10-11, 2019 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Covenant University ENACTUS team emerged victorious over 18 other teams from various universities across the country. The team had finished in second place for two years in a row both times losing to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU). This time however, they got the better of ABU who finished at second place and in September 2019, will represent Nigeria at the ENACTUS World Cup in San Jose California, USA.

Their project, The Pet City initiative, which focused on turning plastic waste into sustainable building materials that are durable and cost effective, was the project that earned them the victory in this year’s competition. According to their team lead, David Iyiola, the Pet City initiative “will reduce the cost of providing houses by 60% and would increase the annual income and standard of living of 150 women by 25%.”

Their second project: TOLES, is a social enterprise that aims at providing children in impoverished communities with eco-friendly and durable footwear from used and scrap tyres. The team successfully produced and distributed 3,922 footwear, created jobs for 257 persons at the production factory and repurposed over 600 waste tyres. The team expressed gratitude to Guaranty Trust Bank for the 1 million grant that enabled them kick-start the project.

First Bank of Nigeria Limited has introduced the Visa Multi-Currency Card, an All-in One-Card and first of its kind to be offered by any financial institution in Nigeria. This card can be linked to all of four currencies namely: NAIRA, USD, EURO and GBP accounts.

With the Visa Multi-Currency card, First Bank customers – within and outside Nigeria – can now enjoy the luxury of having their local and foreign denominated accounts in any currency (earlier stated), linked to a single Debit card. The Visa Multi-Currency Card is designed to ease the daily cashless transactional needs of customers regardless of where they are across the world.
