Alao-Akala Tabitha, Nimatallahi Abdulkadri and Lawal Balikis have won the third place in the International Projects category at the 34th Edition of China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest (CASTIC) in Macao, China.

Alao-Akala Tabitha, Nimatallahi Abdulkadri and Lawal Balikis, students of Doregos Private Academy, Ipaja, Lagos, represented Nigeria with their innovative submissions.

The contest (CASTIC), which had 52 countries participating and over 150 students in attendance, lasted for seven days.

The science projects by the girls were titled: “Student Monitor and Anti-Kidnapping Alert” by Alao-Akala Tabitha and Nimatallahi Abdulkadir, and “Sandpaper Plant, Ficus Exasperata Vahl: A Health Resource for Diabetes” by Lawal Balikis.

Founder of the school, Mrs. Clementina Doregos, who expressed satisfaction and delight over the girl’s achievement, explained that the contest was jointly hosted by China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Ministry of Education and other relevant government departments and organisations.

According to Mrs. Clementina Doregos:

“CASTIC was designed and organised for science-loving students, with age range of 12 to 20. With more than 30-year history, CASTIC was built to be the most prestigious and largest science contest in Asia for young scientists in all parts of the world.

Representing Nigeria to take part in this competition is a testament to the success of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum, as well as an opportunity for students to gain international exposure.”
