Nyango Gyang Boyi has become the first Nigerian to finish the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in the top 10 positions with a money-winning placement.
Boyi finished in eigth place, clocking a time 2:25:41.58 and receives a prize award of $4,000, in addition to winning the two million Naira top prize in the Nigerian category.
Kenya’s Edwin Kibet emerged winner of the 10th Access Bank Lagos Marathon (male category), in a time of 2:14:18 (unofficial time), and receives $50,000 prize money. Nehemiah Kipyegon of Kenya emerged second with a time of 2:16:37:47 and Bernard Cheruiyot of Kenya emerged third with a time of 2:17:17:13.
Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa won the female category, beating her compatriot Alemenesh Herpha Guta to claim her first title in Lagos. Hirpa got to the line in a time of 2:37:04.08 (unofficial time), inspiring an Ethiopian 1-2 in the women’s marathon, with a Kenyan athlete Jerono Peris settling for third place.
