Udodi Onwuzurike has emerged winner of the 200 meters race event at the 2023 Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational.
In his first collegiate indoor 200-meter race, sophomore Udodi Onwuzurike shattered a Stanford record on February 4, 2023 that stood for 26 years.
Onwuzurike ran 20.61 seconds to win the 2023 Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational on the 200-meter banked track at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center by 0.42 seconds. The school indoor record of 21.17 seconds, set by Jimmie Johnson in 1997, didn’t have a chance.
Onwuzurike, a Nigerian international competitor, has tied or broken school records nine times. He now holds school records in four events – the indoor 60 and 200, and outdoor 100 and 200.
Through Friday, five NCAA Division I runners had faster times this indoor season. Onwuzurike is seeking his first NCAA Indoor Championships appearance.
