Department of Psychology, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, (NSUK) has emerged winner of the 2019 Nigerian Psychological Association quiz competition organised in honour of Professor Isidore Obot.
The competition, which took place in Lagos state drew universities from the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
The quiz started at the zonal levels before climaxing in Lagos state.
Delivering his welcome address, Head of Department, Psychology, NSUK, Dr. Lawrence Orkuugh, expressed gratitude to the lecturers in the department for impacting knowledge of Psychology to the students which had yielded positive result.
Dr. Orkuugh who traced the history of the department from its establishment in 2002 under the leadership of former VC and seasoned university administrator, Professor Adamu Baikie, said the department being third of its kind in northern Nigeria, started with a population of 68 students, which had grown to 1,034 students in the 2018/2019 academic session, and a staff strength of 19 lecturers.
On his part, the vice chancellor NSUK, Professor Suleiman Bala Muhammed, congratulated the department for winning the NPA quiz competition, and urged them to keep it up.
The VC said the university would not compromise its stand on ethical standard even as the management was ready to provide the students with quality education they deserve. The VC was represented by deputy vice chancellor (administration), Professor I. M. Haruna.
Similarly, the national coordinator, Nigerian Association of Forensic Psychologists (NAFOP) Professor Amechi Nweze, expressed happiness for the department’s effort in winning the trophy. He said it proved that the students really understood courses they were taught in Psychology.
He further stated that it was another mark and proof of hardwork, and encouraged the students not to relent but continue to do better.
In the same vein, the director of Quality Assurance at NSUK, Professor Andrew Zamani said that the students performed excellently to the extent that they were accused of being lecturers and not students.
