The Super Falcons of Nigeria has been named as the women national team of the year at this year’s Confederation of African Football Awards (2024 CAF Awards).
The Falcons were crowned at the award ceremony held in Marrakech Morocco.
The Nigerian team won the award ahead of Banyana Banyana of South Africa and Atlas Lionesses of Morocco who were the other teams in contention for the Women’s National Team of the Year.
The Falcons qualified for the Olympics for the first time in 16 years and was one of the two teams that represented Africa at the competition in Paris earlier this year.
The team, however, did not go beyond the group stage after losing all group games, a contrast to their 2023 World Cup performance where it got to the round of 16 with some outstanding results.
In the male category, the Elephants of Ivory Coast beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria to the award of the national team of the year.
